Back from the Caribbean.

Hi! Remember me?! It's been so long since I did an entry on here I thought you may have forgotten me!
Andy and I came back from our Southern Caribbean cruise this week. It was a fantastic holiday, gorgeous weather, beautiful islands and scenery and a wonderful cruise ship. What more could you want?
We flew to Miami and stayed over night at Biscayne Bay at the Marriot hotel. The next day we drove to the port to board the ship, Norwegian Jewel. The boarding procedure was very fast and considering almost three thousand people had to check in it went very smoothly ~ the whole procedure of collecting our room keys and signing up for our onboard account took around 50 minutes from start to finish.
After the life boat procedure we set sail at 4pm heading towards our first island ~ the Dominican Republic. The other islands we visited were Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia.
This first set of photos shows the Dominican Republic. It's a very laid back island, reminiscent of the Caribbean of forty years ago. Not a lot on it has changed, it's very pretty with wonderful white sandy beaches.
We couldn't sail right up to the island as the water was too shallow so we dropped anchor a couple of hundred yards away
and the tenders were lowered from the ship to take us to shore.
I'll let you get on with looking at the photos now and sign off.
This first one was our hotel in Miami, the Marriot Biscayne Bay.

Sailing out of Miami.

Miami skyline.

Lowering the tenders from the side of the ship.

You can see our ship out in the harbour.

The beaches were idyllic!

I love looking at old boats on the beach.

The sea was so many different shades of blue.

Our ship again!

I loved their brightly painted houses and look at the colour of that sky!

I loved it here, I wanna
go back please!

I've felt quite depressed since I came home, it was so hot there ~ 90F in the shade~ I've felt so cold back home even though people tell me it's warmed up a lot. It's so hard to go back to work too after spending time in these wonderful tropical islands. Today Andy cheered me up, he's just booked up for us to go to Perth in Western Australia in November and December. It'll be summer over there then and I'm really looking forward to going.
I'll leave you here, I hope you're all well. Sorry I haven't been round visiting yet but I will soon, promise! It's just been so hectic here preparing for this trip and getting the flat cleaned up before I went. I've got seven months to get cleaned up before my next trip!

I just knew you'd love cruising. And the Jewel is a beautiful ship. I'd love to do the Caribbean too but you know I don't like to fly. It's fun to get to ride in the life boats and not have your ship sinking into the sea behind you. We were tendered in the life boats in one port in Alaska. And isn't fun to be on shore & look out at your floating luxury hotel waiting for you? I always love that view of the ship. I'm soooooo glad you had a wonderful time. And I bet the girls are glad to have you home. Linda in WA

Welcome home, Jeannette, it should be warmer now down your way. I'm glad you saw the smiling side of the Dom Rep - not been there myself, but am hearing stories. Glad you enjoyed it so much.
